Parenthood S03E10 – Mr. Honesty

After last week’s scandal I was eager to find out how Adam would deal with the Rachel issue, but I actually found every other storyline much more entertaining.

Joel and Julia are keen to know more about Zoe’s boyfriend, and Facebook’s just not cutting it. I could sense before we even met the dude that he was going to cause some kind of trouble, and sure enough as soon as they all sat down to eat dinner he started asking for money. Ten points to Joel for telling the young extortionist in no uncertain terms that he and Julia would NOT be breaking the law to buy their baby. (#JOELFREED) Zoe sweetly reassures Julia that she’s definitely still on board, but unfortunately there’s nothing she can do without the consent of baby daddy. I can definitely see this snowballing into a bigger problem in the next couple of episodes.

Poor Amber’s struggling with independent life – apparently the coffee shop wages just aren’t cutting it. Breaking down in the middle of a busy intersection was just the icing on the cake; it’s not often we see Amber play the damsel in distress so it was adorably funny. I’m glad she’s realized she needs a goal and a plan, not just a steady paycheck.

Adam makes a huge mess of the kiss-in-the-rain incident. To be fair, it was totally in character for him to want to tell Kristina, but the way he blurted it out midsentence was just tactless. Of course Kristina was going to expect that he fire Rachel, he just made the situation ten times worse by lying to her about it. I couldn’t decide whether it was amusing or painful to watch Adam and Crosby arguing in the studio whilst Landon Pigg strummed away on the ukelele. I’m hoping The Luncheonette will continue to provide the series with cameos from such brilliant musicians.

Crosby and Jasmine face an awkward situation when Jabbar asks when they’re going to get married. I thought the way they handled it together was just brilliant – Crosby and Jasmine work so well when they unite. And singing rounds of Row Row Row Your Boat over the phone at bedtime was just too cute. There’s obviously lingering feelings between the two of them but I did not expect their saucy little hook up at the end of the episode. That’s going to be a fun one to explain to Jabbar… and Dr. Joe come to think of it!

Ohhhh Adam. He royally screwed up here. I get that he just wanted to be honest but if it meant nothing he really didn’t need to tell Kristina. It was typical Adam to behave the way he did and Kristina’s reaction was completely expected and understandable given the situation and her current low levels of self esteem.

Is the show trying to make us like Jasmine again? I still don’t like her at all. A part of me wants them together just for Jabbar but this is just going to get messy.

Loved the Amber stuff, was waiting for this storyline to happen – by the way, was this the first time Lauren Graham didn’t heavily feature in an episode? I can remember once last season she showed up half way through, but she didn’t turn up until the 28min mark on my check and wasn’t around much after that.

    P.S love that #FREEJOEL is totally a thing :)
