This week it’s all in the family. Vivien feels as though she is losing her mind, with some encouragement from the dead souls trapped in the house. Ben is increasingly convinced that she is going crazy and refuses to listen to her excuses.

After keeping us guessing about the man in the rubber suit since episode one, the writers don’t waste any time delivering on their promise to reveal him. Previously, I hypothesised that the most obvious suspect was the doctor who built the house. His wife lost her baby and providing a new one for her seemed the best possible motivation for him to don the suit and create one with Vivien. He has also never been seen around the house, ensuring he was out of mind and unlikely to be guessed as a suspect.

So I have to admit that I was surprised when Tate unzipped the rubber facemask. He seemed like too obvious a choice and also an unlikely candidate given all we knew about him. He has schemed to provide a baby for the woman who lost hers, so I was half right. Over the years he has been there to ensure that she gets what she wants and has been willing to go to whatever lengths necessary to make it happen.

There were other revelations this week as Hayden partially spelt out what goes on with the dead people and how they can behave within the house. Moira also spills the beans to Vivien, telling her the house is possessed with malevolent spirits. She seems to be speaking out of care for Vivien, however, she has been in the house for a long time with Tate and may have a greater role in the conspiracy.

But I have some questions. Why are some of the ghosts/spirits able to interact with the living people and others are not. Tate is able to have sex, attack and kill people and appears normal, despite being shot multiple times when he died. Moira has similar abilities, but is also trapped in the house. Hayden can move things in the house and appear when she wants to, but seems unable to really interact with people.

If Moira is miserable and wants to leave, why not head out on Halloween, like Addy did, get herself run over or killed so that she cannot return to the house and then move on?
